- At this point, what AAC is absolutely in desperate need of is help with this website. HTML, PHP, JavaScript programmers, ... A functioning demo website is going to be a key part in lobbying for AAC. While I can do HTML passably well, a couple pages are going to need way more skill levels than I have (and really don't have the time/capacity to learn right now). (See Choose Destination for an example of what I mean.)
A lot of (relatively simple) HTML pages are going to need to be built and maintained. Given the other demands on my time AAC is going to require, I simply will be unable to keep up.
Also what takes someone who regularly does this (or any) kind of programming on a regular/frequent basis may be able to do something literally in a minute or two that could take me hours (even days), simply because I don't do it often. Or my slow one handed typing skills (I average probably under 10 wpm. Try sitting on one hand for an hour or day or 10 minutes to get an idea of how limiting that can be. {sad self pitying wan smile}).
- People who can write well (succinctly, articulately, ...) will be needed to write copy for some of the above pages. And later on to write press releases, newspaper articles, ... (for example).
- Some stories from people who participated in the Care Package from World War II. What kind of differences it made in their lives. (You can either email me (link on left) or post it in the Forum (link on left))
- People are going to be needed to "Get out the Vote" (lobby) when Congressional AAC legislation is written (a little ways down the road yet).
- If you know any "celebrities" or otherwise well known people, ask them to get involved too by writing their Congressmen and/or some of the stuff above. And ask them if it's okay to list them on the website here (send a letter here saying they support An American Cares).
There's a lot more (or will be)but you get the idea. An American Cares is a major undertaking, no doubt about it. And is going to be a lot of work, plenty to go around.
